LUDHIANA: It was a cheerful Teej celebration on Friday when women dressed in colourful attire walked the ramp in the city. With a decorated "jhoola" (swing) at one corner and beautiful flowers all over the place, the theme at the venue spoke of a true traditional charm. Furthermore, performance of the giddha group amazed the audience. Host for the event Sweety Shanaida has been organizing such Teej celebrations within her social circle for the past three years.
"It's such a fine initiative that I planned. This is a festival dedicated to women and should be celebrated in a great way. The party is always so much fun."
A participant, Meetu Khosla, who was dressed in a Punjabi kurti with golden shimmered Punjabi straight skirt, said, "We wear western clothes most of the time and Teej celebration is a fine moment when we can relive our Punjabi origins. We wear traditional clothes, put mehndi on our hands, jhumkas and we dance on Punjabi music," she said. Adding to the excitement, those with longest nails, perfect figure and danced to perfection won prizes.
